In Her Shoes (24): Erin from Under the Desert Moon

In Her Shoes is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Vanya at YA Story Teller. To participate, simply put yourself in the shoes of a heroine you've recently read about, and then talk about what you would do in her place, or what you've learned from her.

Featuring this week:
Erin Harris from Under the Desert Moon

Erin is the female lead in the Young Adult paranormal novel Under the Desert Moon by Emma Meade. What I am loving about Erin as a character is that she is highly self-aware of her faults as a person, and, that is not something you often find often in Young Adult literature.  Usually some characters will struggle with their insecurities and be a bit tormented by them but not Erin, the female lead in Under the Desert Moon. Erin, despite any reservations she might have about confronting a certain situation, will act if she has to and confront it, despite her fears. I think that it's an amazing quality to have as a character, the determination to overcome things. Yup.

Besides being self aware, I would say that Erin is the type of character that likes to be under the radar, focused on her studies, her art and photography, and her dream to leave her family life and small town behind. She is a total dreamer. And her family life is not the easiest, her father as an alcoholic and a bit angry and Erin and her siblings have to kinda take care of themselves, so it's easy to see why she wants to break free of her current life.

Oh, and I cannot forget, Erin is hilarious. That girl just keeps it real. Her sense of humour is so sarcastic because she's just bored of the same old, same old. She kinda has a Damon Salvatore (from the Vampire Diaries tv show) quality to her humour. She tells it as it as, as well as thinking it. Her observations about things and inner dialogue are just so much fun to read. She is definitely a character that I think is awesome. Self-Aware, smart, and funny. She rocks!

  2. I like her. She is a lot like Heather from my post today, although I focused on some other things as well. I admit Heather is more funny in dialogue than in inner monologue, but she's still an awesome in-your-face reality sarcastic person. Gotta love those kinda girls!
Thanks a lot for sharing and for stepping by today, Jen! xoxo

  4. I haven't read this book, though I think I've heard of it before. I love self-conscious characters who grow in their struggles to overcome whatever weakness they had. Also, I love characters (and real life people) who are honest to the core. If we all were like that, I believe the world might be a much better place :)
Thanks for sharing and stopping by my blog!
