Now Daire must embrace her fate as a Soul Seeker and find out if Dace is one guy she’s meant to be with...or if he’s allied with the enemy she’s destined to destroy.

Reasons I want to read & own this book:
1.  The cover. I love it. In all honesty --> 90% of the reason why I want to read this book is because of coverlove and I got it bad, you guys, I do. I have to keep it real on this one, haha. I think the purple/pink/light blue tones on this cover are stunning. This cover is like a piece of art to me. I love the earrings on the girl, her flowing hair in the wind looks pretty amazing and I love the birds who are fleeing from what seems like a deserted forest? - it all seems so mysterious, mystical but pretty, all at the same time. LOVES IT!
2. Soul seekers. It's a concept I have not heard of before so I'm curious about what it entails but it seems all very mystical and otherworldly and intriguing and those are always themes that  I like in a book and it can't hurt that there is a gorgeous guy in this book, right? Just saying - I'm in!

What do you guys think? :)

My Review:
Sweetness has to be one of those most authentic Young Adult books that I have read in quite a while. I describe it as authentic because the story in this book doesn't even feel like fiction at all, it feels, well, very real. And ironically that is not the easiest thing to find in the Young Adult Realistic/Contemporary genre, believe it or not. Sometimes there are situations that are described in some Contemporary YA books that make you go, "Wait, what? That would never happen in real life, I think the author is pushing it here" but because the story is so amazing you give it the benefit of the doubt, although in the back of your mind you are still retaining that small doubtful feeling that awakened in you while you where reading the story. Well let me tell that with this book, that never happened once and boy was I impressed with that. The writing style used in this book is very natural and is a perfect example that "less is more" because though the book has a lot of depth to it and is quite complex, the writing style always remains approachable, and the dialogue feels like it emulates what real conversations between people sound like. It was beyond refreshing and I adored every minute of it.

When you approach Sweetness, it's easy to assume by the title and length of this book, that it is a very light and even super fun read, but it is not. It is a quick read and it does have its fun and sweet moments but the topics covered in this book are not light. In this book we get to read about verbal abuse, parental abandonment, drug and alcohol abuse, intricate family dynamics, loneliness and alienation. And yes these topics are quite heavy but they never make the book feel like it's depressing or overwhelming, quite the contrary, they add a realness to the story and help deliver the quintessential message of the book, that is: to heal from our wounds, we must learn to accept and love others and ourselves.

The main and secondary characters in this book are just lovely. They are well developed and so darling. I have to say that I loved that the author makes the family members of the protagonists, Emily and Jake, a very important part of the book. That is not something that is common in Young Adult books. Usually the main focus is on the male and female leads story and the family members play a very small part in the book but not in Sweetness. In this book, family is front and center in the conflicts that affect the main leads in Sweetness and it made it that much more realistic because lets face it, family plays a center role in every human beings life. Even when they are absent, their absence leaves a mark. I just thought it was really great to have Emily's dad play a big part in her life and read about Jake's little brother Drake and to get a look into the background of these characters family life.

Now, on Emily and Jake. Our protagonists. There are no words. They are just so adorable and well developed and real. Emily in this book is struggling with the trauma of being verbally abused by her mother. And I think the author of this book captured perfectly, the severe ramifications of verbal abuse. There is a popular saying out there that says that, "sticks and stones might break my bones but words will never hurt me" - well let me tell you something, the author of this book, turns that phrase on its head and sets the record straight. Words can hurt a person. They can scar them for life and leave them in despair, struggling to understand  what their self worth is and whether the mean things someone said to them are true or not. And in Emily's complete decision to alienate and isolate herself from everyone we can see the true affects that words can have on someone. Jake on the other hand, is one of those people who on the outside they look like they have it all. He is a star athlete, handsome and has popularity but in his real life, when you really get to read about whats going in his life, you see that he is actually struggling with a lot of family drama, too. But when the main characters in this book meet we soon get to follow them on their journey to trust one another, befriend one another and eventually fall in love with one another and boy was it beautiful. Why? because Emily and Jake have a refined sensibility. They are caring, smart, selfless young people who just happen to be caught up on a lot of family turmoil causing them to be a bit lost, a bit confused and sad. Thankfully they find each other and their story blossoms into something quite special and charming, I would say.

My only problem with this book is that it definitely needs a bit more of editing but nothing too major. Just a quick correction of a few spelling errors and grammar mistakes. Besides that, this book is just amazing. I am so impressed with Lindsay Paige as I believe that she is in her last year of high school. She is definitely a Young Adult author to watch out for and  I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series. And this is a quick read  as the book is 108 pages so if you are in look for a great Contemporary Young Adult Romance novel, you have a winner in Sweetness.

My Rating: 4.5/5

Dreamcasting (3): From books to film

I am a very visual person and when I read a book I like to envision in my head what each book character would look like in actuality and who could play their roles if they ever adapted that particular book into a film.

What is a dreamcast? Well, it's the cast of actors that you think would be perfect to interpret a character on screen. Today I will dreamcast a popular book character and explain why I think the actor I chose for this dreamcast would be perfect for the role of said character.

Dreamcast for Valentine Morgenstern

Daniel Craig as Valentine Morgenstern from City of Bones

So Daniel Craig's latest role is that of the journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" film but his most famous role is that of James Bond in the James Bond Franchise. As anyone who has seen Daniel as Bond in Casino Royale can attest to, Daniel has a very commanding yet stoic presence on film. He isn't necessarily chosen a lot to play the villain which is what Valentine is in the book City of Bones by Cassandra Clare but I think he would do an amazing job as one. Why? because I think he has a lot of strength to him as an actor when he isn't saying a word. Craig can easily dominate a scene with a glance, a slight change in posture. He has charisma but it is very subtle and a bit mischievous in nature and easily reflected through his eyes. And I think all of these traits are necessary for a such a machiavellic and intimidating villain as Valentine. Valentine is also a very intelligent villain and I think Craig definitely can convey that cold "know it all/above all/one step ahead of you" attitude that characterizes Valentine. Interestingly enough, City of Bones is actually a movie that is currently in production and will start to shoot in August of this year. Lily Collins has been cast as Clary Fray but I have not heard of any other castings. Definitely think Daniel would be a great Valentine, all that would be needed of him is a change of wardrobe and for him to dye his hair a white blond and grow a slight manicured beard and dye it white blond, too.

Waiting on Wednesday (10): Pretty Amy

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. Visit Breaking The Spine to see more entries!

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:
Pretty Amy by Lisa Burstein
Release Date: May 15th 2012 by Entangled Publishing
Format: Paperback
 Goodreads Summary:
Amy is fine living in the shadows of beautiful Lila and uber-cool Cassie, because at least she’s somewhat beautiful and uber-cool by association. But when their dates stand them up for prom, and the girls take matters into their own hands—earning them a night in jail outfitted in satin, stilettos, and Spanx—Amy discovers even a prom spent in handcuffs might be better than the humiliating “rehabilitation techniques” now filling up her summer. Worse, with Lila and Cassie parentally banned, Amy feels like she has nothing—like she is nothing.

Navigating unlikely alliances with her new coworker, two very different boys, and possibly even her parents, Amy struggles to decide if it’s worth being a best friend when it makes you a public enemy. Bringing readers along on an often hilarious and heartwarming journey, Amy finds that maybe getting a life only happens once you think your life is over.
Reasons I want to read & own this book:
1. The cover. Love it. It's pretty yet intriguing because while the girl in the cover is in a very pretty blue dress and stilettos, why is she in jail? And on what seems to be prom night O_o That is not right so I wanna know what the story behind this is, don't you?
2. The genre. Contemporary Young Adult. After reading and loving Anna and the French Kiss & Lola and the Boy Next Door, I have been dying to find more YA contemporary books to read :)
3. From the synopsis & cover this book looks like it's gonna be very fun and like it's gonna have a lot humour and insight so I can't wait to read it.

Central (Daughters of Saraqael #2) by Raine Thomas

Central (Daughters of Saraqael #2) by Raine Thomas
Publisher: Iambe Books
Release Date: November 2011
Genre: YA Fantasy/Romance
Source: Author
Goodreads Summary:
For avid student Olivia Murdoch, life on the Estilorian plane is filled with wondrous adventure. Every lesson about her new existence is both exciting and challenging. Along with her sisters, she embraces this non-human half of herself.

Helping with her lessons is her Gloresti, James. Teacher, scholar and distractingly attractive, James takes on his roles of Olivia's guide and protector with equal dedication. As he learns the human emotions that Estilorians no longer experience, he starts to see Olivia as much more than just an assigned pairing.

The physically weakest of her sisters, Olivia trains hard to learn things that no typical human classroom can impart. When they travel to "Central," the Estilorian base, she comes to understand why she must become strong enough to defend herself. She and her sisters are targets.

Not all Estilorians welcome them. In fact, more than one would see them dead.

My Review:
It's really hard to put into words how fabulous this book is, it really is. Central which is book two in the Daughters of Saraqael series is a rather perfect sequel in more ways than one. It is well-written, intelligent, imaginative, and it has just the right touch of romance. In Central we have a book that centers itself on it's characters overcoming their fears and learning how to trust not only themselves but those around them and I really loved every minute of it.

In Central we continue to learn more about the Estilorians which are beings that used to share the world with humans but had to leave because of their powers and the complexities those created in the human world.  And in Central we have the daughters of Saraqael who are half human/half estilorian showing the Estilorians what human emotions are all about and it is rather interesting because through them Thomas gets to show the reader how the lack or excess of emotions can affect a person/being. Which leads me to our protagonists in Central: Olivia and James.

Olivia and James are such lovely main characters and so well developed. Which is, by the way, another talent of Raine Thomas. She knows how to make incredibly three dimensional and well rounded characters. Both primary and secondary characters in this book are complex and interesting. Doesn't matter if they are villains or heroes, everyone has a story to them which is given to the reader in small increments through clever plot twists and storylines. Olivia, the female lead in this book, is what you would say a more studious type of girl. She is intelligent and has a very good sense of what is right, and is of a very calm and sweet nature. In this book we get to follow her journey as she learns to become more assertive and confident in her abilities and judgement. James, the male lead in this book, is an amazing character as well. He is everything you would want in a male protagonist. He is strong, protective, respectful and always willing to learn and grow as a person. There is no pride with him, just a strong and quiet confidence and his main struggle in this book is about learning how to understand human emotion (as he is an estilorian) and it is rather interesting to read about.

The romance in this book is just perfection. Like in Becoming there is no instantaneous love. There is no love triangles in this book and both Olivia and James are respectful of each other. James gives Olivia her space to grow and viceversa. There are no impositions here and it's just a breath of fresh air to read about the development of such a healthy love story.

What shined for me in this book above everything else has to be the the fantasy elements included in the story. The Estilorians themselves as beings are so uniquely created and their world is so rich, vivid, intricate and colorful that when you read about them it's as if a picture is painted in your mind and you feel that they are real. I would also say that animals, creatures and places of myth and legend make an astonishing appearance in the Estilorian world and I loved every minute of it. Fans of fantasy definitely have a winning book in Central. This book is fantasy at it's best. So creative and for me a definite must read for fans of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings who might be dying to read a fantasy book with a newly and uniquely created world.

My Rating: 5/5

Waiting on Wednesday (9): Inbetween

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. Visit Breaking The Spine to see more entries!

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:
Inbewteen (Kissed by Death #1) by Tara Fuller
Release Date: August 7th 2012 by Entangled Publishing
 Format: Paperback

Goodreads Summary:
Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky—and unending—lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.

It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left...his soul.

Reasons I want to read & own this book:
1. Grim reapers who are in love? Yes, please! I fell in love with the concept of death as a character when I saw the movie Meet Joe Black. In that film, Brad Pitt plays Death himself, and he actually falls in love with a woman while he is on vacay and off of his regular reaper duties. And it was amazingly interesting to me because I had never thought of the emotional ramifications of being a reaper or thought of reapers as characters. And falling in love is incredibly human and leaves you vulnerable so putting a reaper in that situation is always interesting.  Do they react like humans to love? Can they love? Does being death depress them? Are they neutral to the process of having to collect souls/reap people? What would happen if death had to reap the person they are in love with? - the possibilities of death/reapers as a character are endless and can't wait to see how they are portrayed in this book.
2. Complicated romance? I'm in. In this book a reaper actually falls in love with a girl who has been on his reaping list twice! What? insanityyy. I need to know more!!
3. Cover and title. Love them both. The cover is super pretty and the title is very clever. Inbetween. I think it references the status of the protagonist of being between life and death, quite literally and romantically, as well. And I liked that this series is called Kissed by death because when a person is reaped (in movies and tv shows) they usually say that they were kissed by death and well if the female lead does fall in love with the reaper who likes her, there is a high probability that she will be kissed by death, quite literally. Again, I find it very clever. Can't wait to read this book!

In Her Shoes (1): Tessa Gray from Clockwork Prince

In Her Shoes is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Vanya at YA Story Teller. To participate, simply put yourself in the shoes of a heroine you've recently read about, and then talk about what you would do in her place, or what you've learned from her.

Featuring this week:
 Tessa Gray from Clockwork Prince

Theresa "Tessa" Gray is a character from the series The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. I originally read about her in Clockwork Angel, the 1st installment in The Infernal Devices and loved her immediately. I am now reading more about her in Clockwork Prince, the sequel to Clockwork Angel. Tessa is a shapeshifter who is originally from America and goes to Victorian England to meet up with her brother after her aunt and only guardian dies. Would I change something if I was in Tessa's place? no. The girl has suffered through all kinds of hardships and betrayals and she didn't know she was a shapeshifter but I love that she gets to live with the shadowhunters in London's institute. I also love that she is very willful and doesn't give up easily no matter how dangerous the situation is. In the case you haven't read this series yet, shadowhunters are humans who hunt demons and have angel blood in their veins. In Clockwork Prince, Tessa gets to be around Jem and Will, who are both shadowhunters and two of the best male lead characters I have ever had the pleasure to read about. And it doesn't hurt that they are gorgeous and well read, strong and good hearted and everything you want in a guy character, basically.

Have I learned something from Tessa? Yes, I have. I love that she is so true to herself. The girl is a bookaholic/avid reader and it doesn't matter what situation she is placed in, she carries her love for books and her passion for the things she loves, with her at all times. It's admirable because when some people get stuck in a difficult situation they can sometimes lose sight of their hobbies and loves. She doesn't. I've also learned from Tessa that being kind and honest is not something you should be ashamed of. This girl is not afraid to show her feelings or her thoughts. She has a pure heart and is very honorable as a person. And I love it.

Cover Reveal: My Super Sweet 16th Century by Rachel Harris

Hey guys!

Thanks for stopping by the blog to check out the cover reveal and an exclusive excerpt for the upcoming YA debut:
Ready for some cover awesomeness?

Here it is:

Goodreads Summary:
On the precipice of her sixteenth birthday, the last thing lone wolf Cat Crawford wants is an extravagant gala thrown by her bubbly stepmother and well-meaning father. So even though Cat knows the family’s trip to Florence, Italy, is a peace offering, she embraces the magical city and all it offers. But when her curiosity leads her to an unusual gypsy tent, she exits . . . right into Renaissance Firenze.

Thrust into the sixteenth century armed with only a backpack full of contraband future items, Cat joins up with her ancestors, the sweet Alessandra and protective Cipriano, and soon falls for the gorgeous aspiring artist Lorenzo. But when the much-older Niccolo starts sniffing around, Cat realizes that an unwanted birthday party is nothing compared to an unwanted suitor full of creeptastic amore.

Can she find her way back to modern times before her Italian adventure turns into an Italian forever?

Excerpt:

I hear their muffled whispers and understand every Italian word. Every witty comment made at my expense.

It’s like my brain is automatically translating.

I bunch the soft fabric of the dress in my hand and then reach up to feel the ribbon in my hair. I lightly skim my fingers over my chin and feel my lack of zit. I take in the costumes of the crowd, the stench of the animals, and the Italian I can now speak and understand. And suddenly it hits me.

Reyna must have pulled some kind of gypsy mojo.

Maybe this is one of those nifty “change your life” magic scenarios like in the movies. I mean, mostly I’m still expecting to blink and be right back in the midst of overpriced, gaudy tourism, but for now, the gypsy-time-warp explanation is infinitely better than thinking I’ve lost my mind. As I decide to go with that option, I feel my frantic tension melt away.

The growing crowd seems to notice my change in demeanor and begins shooting one another amused looks, but I don’t care anymore. A smile stretches across my face. Evidently, I was wrong earlier; Reyna is a psychic mind reader, because if this is her special brand of bibbity-bobbity-boo, then she made my exact daydream from earlier in the courtyard come to life.

The long red gown, the braided hair, the Italian merchant’s daughter, the time period. I am in Renaissance Florence.

I stare dumbly at the ground, the words and reality sinking in.

I’m in Renaissance Florence!

Waiting on Wednesday (8): Time Between Us

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. Visit Breaking The Spine to see more entries!

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:
Time Between Us by Tamara Ireland Stone
Release Date: October 9th 2012 by Hyperion
 Format: Hardcover

Goodreads Summary:
Anna and Bennett were never supposed to meet: she lives in 1995 Chicago and he lives in 2012 San Francisco. But Bennett’s unique ability to travel through time and space brings him into Anna’s life, and with him, a new world of adventure and possibility.

As their relationship deepens, they face the reality that time might knock Bennett back where he belongs, even as a devastating crisis throws everything they believe into question. Against a ticking clock, Anna and Bennett are forced to ask themselves how far they can push the bounds of fate—and what consequences they can bear in order to stay together.

Fresh, exciting, and deeply romantic, TIME BETWEEN US is a stunning and spellbinding debut from an extraordinary new talent in YA fiction.

Reasons I want to read & own this book:
1. Time traveling romance? I'm in! Totally reminds me of films like: The Time Traveler's Wife and The Lakehouse where you have characters from different decades who meet and fall in love with each other because of some unique form of time traveling. It just leaves you wondering if the time travel in the story and romance will develop in such a way that it seems realistic to the reader. Also, with time travel you get to see each of the characters take/perspective on the era (time frame) that the other character is from and I love it!
2. The title of the book. Time Between Us. Is very clever in many ways, why? because it alludes to the fact that there is a distance in time between the characters and that time separates them and that the time between them is special since they don't know if the time traveling will work well. Of course, that last one is an assumption on my behalf from what I've seen is a very prominent dilemma in time traveling stories.
3. The cover. I love it. It's very lovely and luminous. And, I think it's a bit fore-shadowy of what can happen in the story to be honest since the guy in the picture is kinda faded in the background, very far apart from whom I assume is the female lead in the book. Also, the girl in the cover has her arms crossed and it makes me wonder if shes frustrated with the time traveling and waiting for the guy to come back or annoyed at the fact that this guy she has met is from a different time (that has to be tough on anyone, if you think about it) or just very pensive about the whole ordeal and wishing for his return. As you can see, I have a lot of theories formed already and I want to know what is happening between the two characters and why they are set apart like that!! Aren't you curious, too? xD

Poem by Yours Truly

Hey guys,

So I wrote a little something a couple of days ago. It's a poem. Or a piece of writing that feels poetic to me, at least. I've never written poetry before, like, ever. So I'm kinda nervous about sharing this. Ironically, my nervousness has prompted me to share it because writing to me is about being brave enough to share your thoughts and I don't wanna be a chicken LOL, so I'm just gonna post it and wish for the best. Here it is:

Flesh and bone,
flesh and bone.
Is that all you see?
Is that all there is to me?
Am I not more than mere meat.
More than this suit that clings to me.
More than the howling wind and the turbulent waves of the sea.
More than the stars and our perplexing galaxy.
Do tell me gentle stranger;
Is flesh and bone,
flesh and bone, all you see of me?

Hope you guys liked it *goes into hiding* :D
