"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. Visit Breaking The Spine to see more entries!
This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:
Ironskin by Tina Connolly
Release Date: October 2nd 2012
by Tor Books
Format: Hardcover
Goodreads Summary:
Jane Eliot wears an iron mask.
It’s the only way to contain the fey curse that scars her cheek. The Great War is five years gone, but its scattered victims remain—the ironskin.
When a carefully worded listing appears for a governess to assist with a "delicate situation"—a child born during the Great War—Jane is certain the child is fey-cursed, and that she can help.
Teaching the unruly Dorie to suppress her curse is hard enough; she certainly didn’t expect to fall for the girl’s father, the enigmatic artist Edward Rochart. But her blossoming crush is stifled by her own scars, and by his parade of women. Ugly women, who enter his closed studio...and come out as beautiful as the fey.
Jane knows Rochart cannot love her, just as she knows that she must wear iron for the rest of her life. But what if neither of these things is true? Step by step Jane unlocks the secrets of her new life—and discover just how far she will go to become whole again.

Reasons I want to read & own this book:
1. The cover. It totally has a Phantom of the Opera vibe to it with the masked girl and the mist. I also like the icey & gray tones of the cover because it gives it a certain mystique.
2. This book is a steampunk retelling of Jane Eyre. Andddd it has fey. I mean what an incredible mix, right? Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë is an incredible story and I am looking forward to the author's spin of it in this book.
3. Jane Eyre+Fairies+Steampunk? bad-ass. I am sold.
What do you guys think? :)
I love fae books. I actually haven't read anything steampunk or read Jane Eyre but the cover is awesome. Having to wear a mask to cover her curse sounds really interesting.
ReplyDeleteMy WOW
I don't like Jane Eyre, but surprisingly, I quite enjoy retellings!
ReplyDeleteI am with you! This sounds awesome!!! I love steampunk. Great pick:)
ReplyDeleteI would pick up this book just for the cover. MAN ALIVE, I love it. <3 great job, cover designer person! lol. and it sounds amazing. guh. can't wait to read it. :D
ReplyDeleteI would probably just read this book for a cover. Yep. No shame at all... And for this other reason: "a steampunk retelling of Jane Eyre". Sounds perfect!
ReplyDeleteThis is the first I've heard of this novel. I love the cover too. I'm usually not one for fey, but it does sound interesting.

Okay, this looks great. Adding to my TBR list ASAP.
ReplyDeleteOH, I didn't know this one involved faeries. Even more excited about it now! :D
ReplyDeleteI agree with Emily about Jane Eyre. I had serious issues with it's pacing, but that's what I love about YA, it's so much faster paced! Therefore, I think I will quite enjoy this one.
ReplyDeleteIf I buy the book, do I get the dress on the cover too? ;)
Happy WoW!
This book sounds great & I love the cover!

Ohh, it totally DOES have the whole Phantom of the Opera vibe -- I never noticed that before! I just fell in love with the girl's mask and her silvery dress, and that was admittedly enough to make me want to read this LOL :') But the mix of Jane Eyre and fey and steampunk is my selling point too! <
