Sophia from Shift
Sophia is
one of the main characters in the YA fantasy/romance (Firstborn trilogy) by Raine Thomas and the female lead in Shift which is the 2nd installment in the trilogy. Personality wise, I would say that Sophia is a highly intelligent girl with a very good heart and a desire to learn. She also is clueless when it comes to recognizing romantic and social cues due to the fact that she is so analytical. In her case, though, because she has a certain innocence about her, it is very endearing and she does struggle to understand her emotions because her mind kinda takes over her thinking because of how incredibly intelligent she is.
With Sophia, the journey for her to learn to balance her smarts with her emotions was a slow one. Due to the fact that she not only looked so different from the rest of her family, but that her mind worked so differently as well, she did struggle a bit with insecurity and felt like an outsider and I wouldn't change a thing about that or her. The struggles that she faced to understand herself or those around her were realistic due to how highly intelligent she was. When a person has such intelligence as Sophia, it can lead to overthinking and when dealing with emotions, overthinking doesn't help, you sometimes have to go with your gut feelings.
I thought Sophia was a unique heroine. I love to see analytical and highly intelligent female leads in Young Adult literature whose strength is their mind because they are often highly misunderstood and it was just great to read about Sophia's story and to get an insight into her type of mindset and character traits.
