This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:
Inbewteen (Kissed by Death #1) by Tara Fuller
Release Date: August 7th 2012 by Entangled Publishing
Format: Paperback
Goodreads Summary:
Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky—and unending—lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.
It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left...his soul.

Reasons I want to read & own this book:
1. Grim reapers who are in love? Yes, please! I fell in love with the concept of death as a character when I saw the movie Meet Joe Black. In that film, Brad Pitt plays Death himself, and he actually falls in love with a woman while he is on vacay and off of his regular reaper duties. And it was amazingly interesting to me because I had never thought of the emotional ramifications of being a reaper or thought of reapers as characters. And falling in love is incredibly human and leaves you vulnerable so putting a reaper in that situation is always interesting. Do they react like humans to love? Can they love? Does being death depress them? Are they neutral to the process of having to collect souls/reap people? What would happen if death had to reap the person they are in love with? - the possibilities of death/reapers as a character are endless and can't wait to see how they are portrayed in this book.
2. Complicated romance? I'm in. In this book a reaper actually falls in love with a girl who has been on his reaping list twice! What? insanityyy. I need to know more!!
3. Cover and title. Love them both. The cover is super pretty and the title is very clever. Inbetween. I think it references the status of the protagonist of being between life and death, quite literally and romantically, as well. And I liked that this series is called Kissed by death because when a person is reaped (in movies and tv shows) they usually say that they were kissed by death and well if the female lead does fall in love with the reaper who likes her, there is a high probability that she will be kissed by death, quite literally. Again, I find it very clever. Can't wait to read this book!
Meet Joe Black didn't get great reviews, but I loved that movie. Haven't heard of this book before but it sounds great. I agree with you: please bring it on! Adding it to my list. Thanks!

Very curious!! I'm going to have to give it a read!!
ReplyDeletePS: Do you like Clockwork Prince so far??? I really liked that book, but then again, I love Cassandra Clare.
Yes. I am really loving Clockwork Prince so far. It's really good :)
DeleteThis sounds excellent. I have thought recently that Death or grim reapers is one of the few paranormal characters that haven't been explored much.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? that is so true. I personally have never read a book with Death or grim reapers as the main characters. Seen them in movies or shows but they don't show up too much in books. I can't wait to read this for that same reason :)
